RetroStrange Movie Night #19: The Real Bruce Lee (1973), Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave (1976)

Poster for RSMN #19

The next Movie Night is on February 20th, 2021 and will feature a pair of Bruceploitation features.

The Real Bruce Lee (1973), also known as Last Fist of Fury, stars Dragon Lee (credited as “Bruce Lei”) and is a take-off on First of Fury (1972) in which Japan has invaded China and Mr. Lee fights against his foreign oppressors.

Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave (1976), also released as Visitor of America, stars Jun Chong (founder, World United Martial Arts Organization) and despite the title only features a single scene about Bruce Lee coming back from the grave. The rest of the plot revolves around a Korean fellow traveling to America to rescue his brother from some criminals.

We hope you’ll join us! As usual, we’ll start at 6:30pm with some safety videos. See you then!

Shout-out to the website Clones of Bruce Lee, an indispensable resource while researching these films.

It’s RetroStrange Movie Night… night! + New Twitch Emojis!

Howdy strangers, I’m producing this week’s show (it’s been a long week) as I type this. We hope you’ll join us for Movie Night #18 at 7pm Pacific! We’ll start off with All the Kind Strangers (aka Evil in the Swamp), have a short (curated) 15 min intermission and end with Werewolf of Washington. If people are still hanging out we’ll take requests and play some more junk until we get tired.

Our Twitch chat has been augmented by the addition of two new emojis, joining the Dick Miller emoji and making a set of three are The Lady (from The Doughnuts) which can be used with extraf8-lady and Edward Everett Horton who can be summoned with extraf8-eeh. They look like this:

See you tonight!

RetroStrange Movie Night #18: The Werewolf of Washington (1973), All the Kind Strangers (1974)

RetroStrange Movie Night #17 was a rousing success, thanks to everyone who came the during out 6-hour live stream. We learned a lot about eye safety, gushed over the amazing 1933 Alice in Wonderland, and stumbled our way through Abbot and Costello’s Jack and the Beanstalk. You can view just my intro on the revamped Youtube channel.

For movie night 18, we’re going back to basics- Schlocky 1970s Horror. We’ll be watching The Werewolf of Washington, starring world’s greatest eyebrow actor Dean Stockwell, and All the Kind Strangers aka Evil in the Swamp (way better alternate title), a Stacy Keach made-for-TV movie about kids who kidnap adults and try to force them to be their new parents. Light viewing. You can sign up to be reminded on the Facebook event page.

We’re sticking with the 7pm PST start time, but we might do an early show for the benefit of our friends who got to bed early. We’ll see you there at the usual place, https://twitch.tv/extrafuture

Preview posters for Prince of Space and Captain Z-Ro

Event Links: Facebook Event PageEventbrite Page

Movie Night #16 premiers on January 9th and is an all sci-fi extravaganza. We’ll be watching Prince of Space, which is really two Planet Prince tokusatsu films edited together for American audiences, and the first two episodes of Captain Z-Ro (wikipedia), the coulda-been American Doctor Who.

This time we’re using Eventbrite for virtual ticketing- but don’t worry, Movie Night is and will always remain free.

NOTE: For the first time, Movie Night will begin at 8:00pm instead of our previous start time of 5:30pm Pacific.
