    in

Howdy Strangers, It’s been awhile since we posted an update here for Reasons, but not for lack of labor! We’ve got a big backlog of new content coming to the channel on a slow drip, and this post is our sneaky peek of what’s coming next week to RetroStrange TV this month. But first we want to thank our newest paid Patrons: David Millar, Coraline Ada Ehmke, Matt Witkowski, Kenn Messman, Matte Edens and the ominously named It. Thanks a ton for your monthly support, it helps more than I can say. Thanks to you our channel is officially paying all its server…

  • Happy Public Domain Day

    by

    in

RetroStrange depends on a strong corpus of works in the public domain. Over on Station Manager Phil’s blog he covered some of the very good stuff that is now public domain in the USA as of January 1st 2026. Give it a read and spend some time with PD material today.

  • Watch The Indie Beat TV

    by

    in

The ranks of fediverse streaming just got a lot stronger today, with the launch of The Indie Beat TV. RetroStrange community member Lime Bar has helped bring this new 24/7 streaming music channel to life. It’s like a much better version of classic MTV, with actual music videos from independent artists and creators who opted-in to having their stuff streamed. We consider The Indie Beat to be a sister channel to RetroStrange TV- we share a lot of the same goals, methods, and even code. Today is launch day! Go watch!

We made some small but important changes to the RetroStrange GIF Gallery pages, which are now MUCH more usable on phones and tablets, as well as being easier to read and navigate anywhere you use it. We also added some new Holiday content to the GIF library, such as A Charles Dickens Christmas (1956) and A Christmas Fantasy (1962). These are watermark-free, high quality GIFs you can use anywhere you like. Enjoy!

  • Dean Stockwell (1936 – 2021)

    by

    in

RetroStrange is saddened to hear of the passing of world’s greatest eyebrow actor Dean Stockwell. Mr. Stockwell was a fixture in many formative media experiences for us from the hit TV show Quantum Leap to his roles in classic David Lynch movies such as Blue Velvet. Strangers will know him best from WEREWOLF OF WASHINGTON which we featured on RetroStrange Movie Night. Rest In Peace.
