RetroStrange Update: April 2026

Howdy Strangers,

It’s been awhile since we posted an update here for Reasons, but not for lack of labor! We’ve got a big backlog of new content coming to the channel on a slow drip, and this post is our sneaky peek of what’s coming next week to RetroStrange TV this month.

But first we want to thank our newest paid Patrons: David Millar, Coraline Ada Ehmke, Matt Witkowski, Kenn Messman, Matte Edens and the ominously named It. Thanks a ton for your monthly support, it helps more than I can say. Thanks to you our channel is officially paying all its server fees with Patron support! You non-Patrons can be as cool as them by becoming a Patron.

New To The Channel This April

We’re adding a 2 new vids to the channel this month, including a little promotional video from our pals at The Indie Beat TV, the awesome fediverse music video channel. tIB has been kind enough to include some RetroStrange bumpers in their lineup and we’re happy to do the same for them. Here’s the drop:

  • The Voice Beneath The Sea, “Traces the establishment of the first telephone cable link beneath the Atlantic Ocean from North America to the British Isles and Europe. Scenes of the plants where the cable was manufactured and of the cable-laying ship on the high seas are combined with animated sequences explaining voice carrier, coaxial cable, radio relay, etc.” (Educational Film Guide, 1954-1958)
  • Leave It to Roll-Oh, “Tongue-in-cheek film showing a domestic robot freeing housewives of their chores (and intimating that their work is hardly necessary); actually a promo showing how relays and switches function in the modern automobile. Shown at the New York World’s Fair in 1940.”

The plan moving forward is to add 2 new items each month, even in absence of a Movie Night. I know it’s been awhile. Speaking of…

RetroStrange Movie Night

We are planning the first movie night in several months, in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for a dedicated post about it. For your newbies, RSMN is a live watch-a-along of a few new items and a few old ones, that we play at a specific day and time on the channel and invite folks to come crack wise about in the chat. It’s good fun. I’ll have more details about it next week!

Some Roku Stats

The unofficially official RetroStrange app for Roku is maintained by our friend lime bar, who also admins The Indie Beat. We recently ran some numbers and the app has been installed over 1,000 times! Pretty awesome to see. You’ve collectively watched over 1,200 hours of the channel that way, as well. Thanks for watching.

That’s all for now. Thanks for your support, and we’ll catch you next time.

— Phil Nelson, Station Manager
